With grateful thanks to Christine McDonald, daughter of David Marshall Linford. Christine tells me her father started officer training at Cranwell in Lincolnshire. He then became a pilot officer, trained flying Percival Prentices, and moved on to Meteor Jets, probably when he was posted to Cottesmore.
He then transferred to signals, probably when he was posted to Watton.
At some point, he was promoted to Flying Officer. He left at the end of his 4-year short service commission, probably in 1956, and joined British Aluminium. He was on the reserve for 8 years and promoted to Flight Lieutenant. He spent his £700 gratuity on a Jowett Javelin.
Christine’s father died when she was quite young, so if you have any memories of David, the family would very much appreciate hearing from you. In the first instance, pease do get in touch via this form and your details will be passed on.
